Clement Clarke Moore’s home was one filled with love and warmth and tradition. Clement ventured into town on Christmas Eve to buy turkey with his jolly, round coachman who had a long white beard. After purchasing the needed turkey from the market, Clement came back with sleigh bells merrily ringing in his ears and the snow was also falling on that Christmas Eve.
Right then, Twas the night before Christmas was born. Clement’s sole intent was to keep the poem private, but it was published anonymously just before Christmas in 1823. The poem quickly became a beloved of the public and helped to spread Moore's name around the globe. It shaped the imagination of who Santa Claus is and what he would look like, especially in the eyes of children.
As the children are “nestled all snug in their beds”, St. Nick goes right to task, filling stockings with goodies and leaving presents by the tree. The sugar plums of the children’s dreams will be a reality when they awake. The rhyming narrative as told by the children’s father continues on with dad leaving his bedroom and
venturing downstairs, catching good old Saint Nicholas in action. The scene is described in rhyme, right down to the glow of St. Nick’s pipe.
Considered as to be largely responsible for the conception of Santa Clause, Twas the night before Christmas is a classic talestill enjoyed by children the world over.
Ideal for children, teachers, students, the whole family and even the young at heart.
